Diablo creator says "the worst ending of any game I've ever played" is hidden in a beloved '90s D&D RPG
Diablo creator David Brevik is honest with himself. He truly loves the 1991 Dungeons and Dragons-lite, Dungeon Master cousin Eye of the Beholder, but he seems certain the landmark PC game has the worst ending. Ever. Brevik recounts his time playing the game to PC Gamer in a new interview, saying, "I had mapped out all the levels on graph paper. I was really into it. And then at the end, I killed the final boss, and a little dialogue box pops up and says 'Congratulations, you win!' or whatever.

Kingdom Hearts 4 Lets You Play As The Final Fantasy Universe’s Most Powerful Black Mage
For good reason, developers often don't let playable characters in video games get too overpowered, lest they make a game too easy to plow through. But Kingdom Hearts 4 seems to be straying from that principle, as Donald Duck was revealed to be a fully playable character in last weekend's extended D23 trailer. In a segment of Kingdom Hearts 4 taking place in the Underworld from Hercules, players will take control of Sora's perennial sidekicks, Donald and Goofy, in platforming and battle sequence

Ex PlayStation boss told Clair Obscur Expedition 33 devs not to call it a turn-based RPG: "That alone might cause players to overlook it"
It sounds like a detail from an alternate universe now, but former Sony Interactive president Shuhei Yoshida was convinced turn-based JRPGs were too unpopular while Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was in development. So he advised its publisher, Kepler Interactive, to describe the 2025 game as something different from what it actually was, and the studio listened. Yoshida spoke about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and the guidance he'd given other indie publishers during his tenure as PlayStation's in

This solo samurai TTRPG tells a story through stones in real life
Tabletop RPGs have an underrated advantage versus other forms of gaming art: reality. While these games will always require some level of imagination, the experience itself requires real elements that the player directly interacts with. The roll of a dice, the presence of other players, hardbound books containing loads of lore, all of it a series of haptic feedbacks for your experience. I'm always fascinated when a TTRPG takes full advantage of the fact that it's in the real world to tell a stor

Gamedev can go on forever if you don't prioritize the things that players actually notice, but if you're making an immersive fantasy RPG, it's critical that the intended illusions—bustling towns, lively taverns, festering dungeons, and so on—not shatter...
